Gary Stephen Webb

Gary Webb attended college in Indianapolis and at Northern Kentucky University. He was an investigative reporter for major newspapers and news organizations. Beginning in Kentucky, then Cleveland, Gary worked for the San Jose Mercury News (Knight-Ridder), lived near Sacramento and covered the California Statehouse. In 1990, in team reporting, he shared in the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Reporting covering the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake. Previously, he was awarded the national Investigative Reporters and Editors Award for Reporting From a Small Newspaper. Gary is also known for "Dark Alliance," the 1996 investigation piece, first published by the Mercury News, and his book of the same title. He died on December 10, 2004 near Sacramento.
